Have you always wanted to attend fashion school but don’t have the time to commit to a full year of coursework? Or maybe you’re preparing to pursue your fashion degree and want to get ahead of the game? The Fashion School Intensive is designed for you.

This 2-day, in-person program condenses core fashion school courses into an immersive weekend of training. You’ll gain hands-on experience across design, patternmaking, and sewing—whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to sharpen your technical skills.

What You’ll Learn

Across five structured courses, you’ll build a strong foundation in fashion design and garment construction:

1. Creating a Fashion Line: The A–Z of Collection Development

Learn how to take an idea from inspiration to a cohesive collection.

  • Develop moodboards and color stories

  • Sketch using croquis (fashion illustration templates)

  • Explore merchandising, pricing strategies, and target markets

  • Understand textiles: wovens vs. knits, natural vs. synthetic, prints, patterns, and care

2. Intro to Patterns: Literacy, Manipulation & Drafting

Build confidence with commercial and production patterns.

  • Learn pattern elements: grainlines, notches, seam allowances, darts, grading

  • Practice flat pattern manipulation using bodice and skirt slopers (blocks)

  • Draft your own leggings pattern from measurements, fit, and adjustments

  • Take home half-scale slopers to continue practicing

3. Intro to Sewing – Wovens

Master the fundamentals of working with woven fabrics while making a drawstring pant.

  • Set up your sewing machine and basic stitches

  • Create slash and patch pockets

  • Construct a drawstring waistband

  • Practice understitching, topstitching, hemming, and pressing techniques

4. Intermediate Sewing – Wovens

Advance your skills with a dress project designed to build on woven fundamentals.

  • Sew darts and gathers

  • Insert a railroad zipper

  • Add on-seam pockets and facings

  • Finish with a notched cuff

5. Intro to Sewing – Knits

Learn the specialized techniques required for stretch fabrics while making a t-shirt.

  • Machine setup for knits and stitch variations

  • Pressing and finishing methods for knits

  • Insert a ribbed neckband

  • Practice hemming and topstitching
